I just dropped off the life raft in Ellsworth for its annual inspection. I decided to take a break on my way home and eat my lunch on the beach in Searsport, Maine. When I climbed down to the beach I heard some thing moving around the corner. Just then two deer jumped in the water. I watched them for my whole lunch. They swam almost all the way to Islesboro , three miles away while I ate.
It reminded me of a time that a moose followed me into Camden Harbor. That moose followed me all the way into the inner harbor. I could not believe it. That moose swam at three knots. It was so incredible I bought a camera for the boat the next day so if it happened again I could prove that it was not just another good yarn, told by a sailor.
I am always talking about seals and whales on my trips, but sometimes it is not a marine mammal passing by, it is a fuzzy one from land.
